Thomas Paine, Thomas Jefferson and the Bill of Rights are three things that have some sort of connection. Thomas Paine and Thomas Jefferson both have documents. Their documents were both a result for the rule that Great Britain had over us. The Bill of Rights is also a piece where its writing had to do with a freedom type document written to let others feel free. Thomas Paine was one of the great supporters of the American Revolution. He was a journalist and used his utensils to get the public to break free from Great Britain. When Revolution against the British Empire came, Thomas Jefferson was not JUST ready. What is Golf Free Essays

Of all the games ever invented by man, golf, in my opinion, is by far the greatest. Golf is different than other games. Golf challenges the mind, body, and soul. Players would hit a pebble around a natural course of sand dunes, rabbit runs and tracks using a stick or primitive club. Today’s golf courses consist of 18 holes or a front nine and a back nine. However, prior to 1764 this was not the case. The Old Course at St. Andrews is the oldest known, and most likely the first course ever constructed. It consisted of 12 holes, 11 of which were played. The course started at the center of St. Andrews and followed the lay of the land out to the town of River Eden. After reaching the 11th hole, the players would turn around and play 11 holes back using the same greens and holes. Thus, a full round consisted of 22 holes and only 11 greens. In 1764, the Royal and Ancient rules committee cut four holes out of the cour se which reduced the amount of holes on a course to today’s common 18. As more courses were built, course architects began to construct 18 separate greens to add both character and safety to the courses. A common joke is that the reason we have 18 holes is because there is 18 shots of whiskey in a bottle. Golf’s history is one reason why this game is so great, because we still try to play the game the same way our ancestors did. You would think since golf is so difficult that less people would play it. Well the reason people do play golf is because they want the challenge. A beginning golfer can go to the range and hit 300 hundred terrible golf shots and hate the game. As soon as he hits that one perfect shot he gets hooked again, because there is nothing better than seeing that golf ball soar through the air. Golf is the only game that an average person can do the same thing that a tour pro can do. In what other game, in what other walk of life, can you perform something that in that moment is as good as it can be? The average person cannot go to a major league ballpark and hit a grand slam to win a game, but when the average person makes a hole in one, it is a shot that no one, not Phil Mickelson and not Jack Nicklaus in his prime, could have done better at that moment in that place. The chance of, and quest for, perfection is what keeps golfers coming back. What makes this game so difficult is because we do it once and believe that we should be able to do it every time. This is what separates the average person from a tour pro. I have hit shots that tiger woods would be satisfied with, the only difference is that he does it much more often than I do. Golf is the most difficult game in the world but that is what makes it so satisfying and fun. Golf has some of the most amazing views in the world. Some baseball stadiums have good views of city skyscrapers. The rare college football stadium will glimpse a beautiful campus. Our indoor arenas increasingly all look alike and now they are louder than an airport runway. If you fish, hike, surf or ski, maybe you have an argument on this subject, but compared with all the mainstream sports, golf has no equal in terms of the setting. There are hundreds of golf courses that jut into the ocean, hundreds more that wind through forests, hundreds more with majestic mountain views and hundreds more that flow through parkland valleys. Stand on the 18th tee at Pebble Beach, a few feet from the Pacific Ocean with the spray from the waves landing softly on your shoulders, and you will never again wax poetic about the Citgo sign behind the Green Monster at Fenway Park. Ask any golf architect that a golf course isn’t just a golf course it’s a canvas where some of the greatest pictures have ever been painted. Golf isn’t just another game to a golfer, it is a way of life. There is no other sport that can frustrate you so much one shot but then you can be the happiest person in the world the next. There are many things that make golf great, but its history, difficulty, and the views you see are what make the game the greatest ever. No other sport compares and it’s a shame that many people wont give this great game a try because they think it’s an old man sport. Below the mantle is the core, which is the center of the earth. The core is composed of mostly metallic iron and has an average density of 5.52g/cm^3. The hydrosphere is the liquid parts of the earth, including rivers, oceans, lakes, and marshes. The hydrosphere covers 70% of the earth’s surface and is home to many plants and organisms. The hydrological cycle, also known as the water cycle, describes the continuous movement of water above and below the surface of the earth. PLAN A I will draw a scatter graph to display my results. The reason why I have chosen this is that I expect it to show me the correlation between IQ, Average number of TV watched and KS2 Total. When I had completed my scatter graph, I noticed that there was a strong-positive correlation. I drew a line of best fit and noticed that it passed through the Upper Quartile IQ. In addition, I noticed a few outliers. This occurred when a student had a high IQ but had a low KS2 Total. PLAN B I will calculate the correlation by using Spearmans Rank Correlation. The reason why I am doing this is that it will enable me to see what type of correlation there is between IQ, KS2 Total and Average TV watched in a week. CONCLUSION I will say that this investigation does follow my hypothesis apart from me having a few outliers. Moreover, I will say that the outliers that I got did not make much difference to the results that I got. In addition, I think that I could have tried other methods such as using samples such as a simple random sample, Stem and Leaf Diagrams or cluster sampling that involves selecting the sample units in groups The limitations that I feel occurred during the process when I was carrying out this coursework is that there was not much time available to me so I just used two different ways to test out my hypothesis rather that using maybe three ways. In addition, I can say that if I had more time, I could have used more data and have varied the samples so that my results could be more accurate. I could also collect my own data because I can ensure reliability and have a varied source of data from different schools. This would help me because I can see if my hypothesis affects all the schools or some schools. If there were to be any more work that I would add to this work, I would use a variety of methods to test out my hypothesis.

The Jamestown Massacre 104 men were sent to form Jamestown in 1607. 4 months after they arrived, 70 had died. Thousands were sent to take their place over the next 3 years, but they also died. Why? * Jamestown was founded on may 14 1607, by a small group led by Christopher Newport who was hired by the London company to transport colonists. * Jamestown was the first permanent English settlement in America. * Many settlers died in the winter of 1609-1610. * Survivors were encouraged to stay by more settlers and supplies which came the following June * In 1612 tobacco farming was started * Native Americans often attacked the village. * Jamestown was burned down in 1676 Could the reason that so many died have been starvation? It seems that the winter of 1609 was so bad that the many of the colonists died of starvation. They were made to eat their own excrement and flesh. They ate Indians and animals from the colony, including horses, dogs and rats, or anything they could find. But this was hard to believe, as the island was full of food. Maybe the cause of death was drought. Scientists have discovered that the worst drought in many years was between 1604 and 1609. They can tell this because of the tree samples that have been taken. No water meant that crops wouldn't grow, and animals would die, as well as humans. The problem with this theory is that down river, there was excess food. The men could have been too weak to gather food. Why? Maybe the colonists died because of disease? The men could have got diseases from the water that they drank. The position of the settlement was not ideal, although it was very good military position. The water that the settlers drank was out of the river, but the water around the island was stagnant, it didn't move. All the sewage from the island was poured straight into the river, this meant that the men were drinking raw sewage. A lot of men died of 'Bloody Flux' and typhoid, these are typical sewage related diseases. The colonists knew about the risks of drinking the water, but they had no choice, they had to drink something. Internal Politics could have played a part in the unexplained deaths at Jamestown. Before Christmas in 1606 there was a dispute over who would lead the expedition to colonise Jamestown.

With the release of the new budget for year 9 from Competition Bikes, there are a couple of areas that are a concern that warrant being addressed. The first being the prediction of amount of bikes to be sold; Competition Bikes is expecting 3,510 units to be sold after a year 8 that sold only 3,400 units which was a 15% drop in sales from the year prior (which sold approximately 4,000 units) with zero drop in price point which may make it harder for customers to justify purchasing a bike in the current economy. Understandably, year 8 was in the middle of a recession and the economy could rebound for a productive year 9. However, with only an extra $984 being spent on advertisement, the expectations could fall short unless advertisement spending is increased to approximately the $2,000 range it was in year 7. Competition Bikes is putting themselves at risk for over ordering raw materials and a surplus of raw materials only takes up more storage space, which leads to extra money being s pent for storage. There is also an issue with General and Administration Expenses. General and Admin expenses is the same amount as it was in year 8 ($170,000). However, in year 7, Competition Bikes spent $12,000 less and sold 600 more units then it did in year 8. Year 7 was proof that Competition Bikes has the ability to produce and sell a successful amount of bikes without having an extremely high operational cost. That extra $12,000 could be spread into other aspects such as: advertising, factory maintenance and even bonuses. 2. A flexible budget is a budget that adjusts or flexes for changes in the volume of activity† (Averkamp, 2013). A flexible budget is more useful than a static budget because it is based on actual output. The difference between an actual output and a budgeted amount is known as a variance. When the amount of the actual result is higher than budgeted, it is considered favorable, whereas when the budgeted amount turns out higher is unfavorable. Within the Competition Bikes flexible budget there are a few favorable variances, the first one of note being within Net Sales. The company had a budget of $5,247,250, with the flexible budget being $5,117,385, however the  final numbers were $5,096,847, which gives the company an unfavorable variance of -$130,065. Total Variable Cost however was a favorable expense. With a planned budget of $3,967,962 and a flexible budget of $3,869,612 the actual output was $3,805,400 the favorable variance came out to $98,349. Contribution margin was also an unfavorable variance (-$31,716). Advertising Expenses went over cost for an unfavorable variance of $3,754 from a standard budget of $28,412 and a flexible budget of $27,708. The extra money spent towards advertising may have been to help boost extra sales towards the end of the year. Transportation Out also went over its budget for an unfavorable variance by $5,607. However, there is more to the Transportation Out than what the budget says. The price of shipment is supposed to be $30 per unit and with 87 less units sold; there should be an extra $2,610 in the budget. This requires extra investigation. 2A. In terms of corrective action, the best course is to focus on where the points where there were unfavorable variances. A key point to that would be to also create realistic predictions of sales and budget. By predicting a high sales goal (one that exceeds the amount of units sold the year prior), Competition Bikes is potentially setting itself up for another down year. To prevent another unfavorable variance in Net Sales, which was affected by the unfavorable Actual Output of Units Sold. Although the projection output was missed by only 87 units, that totaled out to $130,065. It would behoove Competition Bikes to create realistic predictions (as stated above). Another idea would to be to examine the sales process. Compare and contrast what strategies were compared between the successful year 7 and the down year 8 to determine if any changes took place in the sales process and development. Competition Bikes should not have been as aggressive as they were following a down year. An improved variance here could also directly affect the Contribution Margin and Operating Income, which both were unfavorable. Advertising Expenses should be increased to the level of year 7. Competition Bikes lowered their budget for advertising but yet ended up spending more  anyway. With the economy still in a rut, the chances of hitting a high prediction is slim, especially with low advertising. Since fewer sponsors are using the products from Competition Bikes, it would be wise to advertise to a different market of users (i.e. college students, those who live in traffic congested cities (New York), bike cops, etc). Meanwhile, the transportation unfavorable variance could be fixed by determining what the additional costs were. Since the transportation cost per units is $30, with sales prediction 87 less than projected, that is $2,610 that could have put transportation costs into favorable. The additional costs could be because of rising fuel prices, toll roads, raises for drivers, etc. Many avenues have to be explored in the future to save money on transportation (renegotiate contracts, new source of transportation, new transportation company, etc.) 2B. â€Å"Management by exception is the practice of examining the financial and operational results of a business, and only bringing issues to the attention of management if results represent substantial differences from the budgeted or expected amount† (Steven Bragg, 2014). This practice can be effective as it leaves upper management with more serious issues. By utilizing accurate and up-to-date information, management can keep the budget on track and consistent with what was forecasted. One main target for Management By Exception is net sales. Breaking down the yearly goals into weekly or monthly targets will allow the company to better breakdown the trends and identify areas of need and growth. By monitoring the trend of sales, management can initiate discussions on how to improve sales and how to keep up with demand if sales are higher than expected. Competition Bikes would be wise to make start/restart contract negotiations to maintain consistent material and labor costs. Spending variance on materials was favorable but labor was unfavorable. If the price of the materials or labor increase substantially overtime, the budget could become more expensive, costing the company more money. Saturn has 62 moons that have been discovered but only 52 have been given an official name while the others still are waiting to have specific information found out about them to give them a name. The surface of Rhea is a mixture of ice and rock similar to a frozen dirty snowball. Dione was discovered in 1672 by Giovanni Cassini. Mimas- Named after the Greek god giant of war. It looks like a bull’s eye by viewing in space. The surface of is covered with impact craters due to shock waves that happens on the moon which measure is size of about 40 kg . It is also very low in density and is composed of mostly water with small amounts of rock. The distance from Saturn is 185,520km, the period of orbit around Saturn is 22.6 hrs and its mass is 3.81 x 10 sub 19kg. The temperature of Mimas is minus 344 degrees Fahrenheit. It was discovered by Williams Herschel in 1789. Enceladus- Named the god that was responsible for tremors and volcanoes, and he was considered the leader of the giants. Titan’s atmosphere has an altitude 10 times higher than or nearly 600 km into space as oppose to the earth. According to a space expedition in 1980 by the Voyager 1Titan showed to only have air pressure of one and a half at sea level and four times as dense of the earth. Titan has chemical readings is mostly gas about 95% nitrogen and 5% methane, which are two chemicals that are present in earth’s surface. Nitrogen help produces this thick smog like cloud that can hold water and  produces rain. With the help of methane which is a gas allows the cloud s rain to produce or rain down liquids similar to gasoline. What Is the Coalition Application Essay? While there’s no official word limit for the Coalition Application essay, you should aim to write about 500-550 words. This is a pretty standard college essay length. Unfortunately, you won't get to use one of these bad boys to write your essay. How to Answer Each of the 5 Coalition Essay Prompts The Coalition essay is a hugely important part of your application. In this section, we go over each of the five Coalition Application essay prompts, and give you tips to help you come up with a great topic and produce an overall fantastic essay. Coalition Essay Prompt 1 Tell a story from your life, describing an experience that either demonstrates your character or helped to shape it. This essay prompt is pretty broad; it allows you to focus on any significant experience in your life. To answer it effectively, you’ll want to relate a specific anecdote or event that had a strong impact on you as a person and how you define yourself today. Tips for Answering This Prompt Pick a truly significant experience.It doesn't have to be super rare, but it should hold deep meaning for you. Ask yourself: what defines you? What is important to you? Can you connect the development of a personality trait or goal you have to a specific event or moment in your life? Focus on one experience. Don’t try to cram in as many stories as possible- concentrate on the one incident that's most important and use this essay as a chance to really delve into the specifics of it. How did it make you feel at the time? Why did it have such an impact on you? If writing about a negative experience, try to put a positive spin on it. You don’t need to stick with a happy-go-lucky story- maybe you lost a friend because of a heated argument, or forgot to pick up your little brother from school one day. Regardless of the incident, keep the focus on how this situation ultimately taught you something important about life, such as the value of responsibility or the meaning of maturity. Brainstorming Ideas A time you helped someone in need, such as a friend, a classmate, or a sibling, and how your assistance revealed to you the value of cooperation or compassion. For example, did you tutor a peer in math? Help your sibling recover from a bullying incident? A time you made a mistake or acted against your true characterand what this taught you about morality and being true to yourself.Perhapsyou lied about a grade you got to your parents or said something out of anger to a friend and later regretted it. An incident that emphasizes a particular skill or ability you have. For example, you could write about the time you organized a winter holiday food drive at your high school and how it highlights your leadership skills and passion for social work. A time you faced a challenge and how you ultimately overcame it. Maybe you struggled severely with geometry and were about to fail your math class, but because of a great friend who encouraged you to keep trying, you eventually raised your grade from a D- to a B. Pitfalls to Avoid Pretending something is more important or unique than it actually is. Don’t tell a story the admissions committee has likely heard hundreds of times. Choose an event that speaks to your life and has had a large impact on how you see yourself. Basically, don't write about what you think the admissions committee wants to read. For example, instead of discussing how you've been in Honor Society since 9th grade, it'll be a lot more interesting if you wrote about somebody you met through Honor Society or why you decided to drop out of it. Focusing too much on the negative. While it’s OK to write about a time when you made a mistake, did something wrong, or faced a challenge, try to avoid writing only about the bad parts. Your story should overall be optimistic and reveal something positive about yourself. Telling instead of showing. Don’t just describe what happened- relate the experience as if the reader were there with you. Using some literary techniquesadds color to your writing. Coalition Essay Prompt 2 Describe a time when you made a meaningful contribution to others in which the greater good was your focus. Discuss the challenges and rewards of making your contribution. This second essay prompt is more specific than the one above and asks you to discuss a time in your life when you helped out with a greater cause (i.e., more than just yourself, your family, or your friends). This prompt is also asking you to address any challenges or struggles you faced while making this positive contribution, and what these taught you about yourself and what you value in life. Tips for Answering This Prompt Focus on something meaningful to you. If you aren't sincere, the admissions committee will be able to detect this, so write about something that affected you on a deep level. Avoid clichà ©sand overly general experiences. Lots of students volunteer at shelters and tutor other students, so you’ll need to ensure that whatever you write about is specific and unique to you. Don’t just write that you were moved by the time you volunteered on a farm over the summer- explain who or what moved you and why you felt this way. Brainstorming Ideas A specific incident from a volunteering experience you’ve had. For example, say you used to tutor underprivileged middle school students. You could talk about the time you struggled to help a student read a book due to his dyslexia, and what this taught you about people, life, and privilege. A specific person or group of people you helped in some way. If you volunteered with an outreach program or at a hospital, for instance, you could talk about a particular person you helped, what was difficult about helping them, and how the experience ultimately influenced your goals or interests. Pitfalls to Avoid Not being humble or honest about your experience. Admissions committees don’t want to read about how awesome you are for helping out at a retirement center- many students do similar things, and volunteering doesn’t automatically make you the "perfect" applicant. Don’t brag about your experience, or you might come across rude and self-centered. Sounding like a "voluntourist."If you volunteered with an organization abroad, be careful not to sound as though you were just there for vacation and didn’t care about the people or area you helped. You don’t want to be viewed as the privileged student who simply traveled to an underdeveloped area and then left without a second thought. Rather, emphasize your ongoing connection to this experience, the area,and (ideally) the people there. Coalition Essay Prompt 3 Has there been a time when you’ve had a long-cherished or accepted belief challenged? How did you respond? How did the challenge affect your beliefs? It can be difficult to admit when you are wrong, don’t have enough evidence to back up a claim, or don't know how to respond to someone who rationally challenges a belief you have. This Coalition essay prompt is all about open-mindedness and how you respond to counterarguments. Being able to change your opinion about something or even just acknowledge shortcomings in your beliefs indicates that you can objectively consider others’ opinions and recognize when a different stance is more logical, moral, or preferable than your own. Tips for Answering This Prompt Focus on something meaningful to you. You don’t need to write about a super political or controversial topic, but it should be something that holds some sort of value for you. At the same time, avoid anything too trivial. The admissions committee won’t care all that much if you changed your mind on what shampoo you use, for example. While you don’t need to have completely changed your mind, you should’ve gained new insight from the challenge to your belief. Don't feel as though you have to explain how you suddenly jumped from one side of an issue to another in the course of a single conversation. Still, you should definitely discuss how this challenge to your belief made you consider other perspectives, even if not right away. Brainstorming Ideas A political topic or social issue, such as immigration laws, abortion rights, etc. You don’t need to write about something as serious or as controversial as these examples, but if you’re particularly passionate about something or underwent a major change in terms of what you support or oppose, this is a good topic to pick. A religious or spiritual belief. Perhaps you grew up highly Catholic but began to stray from the religion as a teenager. This could be a good time to explain how a particular challenge to your religious beliefs affected your convictions, and what this suggests about your approach to other religions in the world and people with beliefs different from yours. Pitfalls to Avoid Sounding too closed minded. The purpose of this essay is to illustrate how a challenge to a belief you held affected you (ideally in a positive way!). However, if the point of your essay is that you didn’t change your mind at all or consider another perspective after hearing a valid criticism, this probably isn’t the best prompt for you to pick. Remember that the admissions committee wants to see that you’re open to new ideas and gaining new insight. Acting as if it’s your way or the highway. Even if you didn’t change your belief in the end, remember that not everyone reading your essay will agree with your opinion. Don’t write as though you are absolutely, 100% correct- be humble and open to what others might think. Doing this will leave a much better impression on the admissions committee! Being a teenager today is all about brooding next to chain link fences. Coalition Essay Prompt 4 What is the hardest part of being a teenager now? What’s the best part? What advice would you give a younger sibling or friend (assuming they would listen to you)? This essay prompt actually consists ofthree separate questions. In your essay, you're expected to elaborate on the following: What the hardest part of being a teenager now is What the best part of being a teenager now is What advice you would give to a younger sibling or friend regarding being a teenager Note that the focus of this prompt is the "now"- this era, this time in which teenagers live. Ask yourself: what do you know about "now" that you could write about? How does it relate to you or your life as a teenager? Tips for Answering This Prompt Focus on the concept of "now."The point of this essay is to explain what you feel teenagers (including yourself!) are dealing with. Ask yourself: what kinds of things are teens facing these days? Are there any common challenges or struggles today’s teens (and you) are facing? What about the advantages or benefits teens today have? Tie your essay back to you.You're not just writing about teenagers in general but about you as a teen and where you fit in today's world. Whatever you talk about, be sure it's something that you personally have experienced or witnessed, and that it plays a significant role in your life or has had a big impact on your perspective of yourself, your future, and others your age. Try to answer all three questions if you can- though it's perfectly fine to focus on one or two.This prompt can seem overwhelming since it’s asking so many questions at once, so make sure you’re finding some balance as you write. If you want to focus on a good point of being a teenager, for example, that’s fine- just see whether you can also comment on a bad point. When in doubt, answer the one question in which you're most invested. Don't cram in answers to all three questions if you can't or don't want to! Brainstorming Ideas Technology. Teenagers today have access to technology like never before. You could write about iPhones, texting, Snapchat, etc., and what kinds of effects (positive, negative, or both) this new technology-obsessed world is having on today’s youths and yourself. For example, do you find you can't communicate with others without texting them first or friending them on Facebook? What might this suggest about your future and that of other teens? Political or social issues. How do you and other teens feel about the Trump administration, immigration laws, women’s rallies, LGBTQ+ rights, etc.?Think about how you've reacted to these ideas and events, and try to consider the broader implications for teenagers today. Entertainment and media. How do movies, music, TV shows, and video games affect today’s teens? How have they affected you? For example, you could discuss how being able to stream TV shows allows you to more easily organize your schedule so you can get all your homework done without having to miss the newest episode of The Big Bang Theory. Pitfalls to Avoid Being too general. Don’t just say technology is great and you love smartphones- how has it affected teenagers and you specifically? What kinds of advantages does new technology give teens, and why do you think this is important or relevant to your own life? Not connecting your analysis back to yourself. Remember that even though you're talking about teens in general, you're also supposed to be clearly tying this idea back to your life as a teen today. Don't just talk about what's affecting teens- what's affecting you? Once you have identified something in your own life, you can bring this idea back to teens more generally. If you feel as though the other Coalition Application essay prompts are restricting your personality and voice, take this as an opportunity to really showcase who you are. Write about something that’s important to you. No matter what kind of approach you use or topic you write about, try to focus on something that holds significance to you. Perhaps it’s a particular person, an activity, an event, an interest, or an ambition. It’s OK to reuse another essay you’ve written. If you already wrote a personal essay for the Common App, for example, it’s perfectly fine to use it again for the Coalition App. Just be sure to tweak any words or phrases that are specific to a school (in other words, you don't want to submit an essay that mentions how amazing Stanford is if you're applying to UT Austin!). Brainstorming Ideas You can write about pretty much anything for this prompt, so the choice is yours! Pitfalls to Avoid Not having a clear direction. The biggest con with a "choose your own topic" prompt is that you don't get clear instructions for how to structure your essay. Make sure to use an easy-to-follow organization that clearly expresses the main point of your essay, whether that’s how passionate you are about football or how your experience living in eight different states has influenced your professional goals. Restating your resume.The admissions committee already has access to your resume, so they don't need a rehash of the extracurriculars you've participated in or the part-time jobs you've held. Focus on something that hasn't been mentioned in your application or that you feel you haven't given enough attention to. Coalition Essay Prompts: Which One Should You Choose? Now that we’ve covered the five Coalition Application essay prompts, how can you figure out which prompt is best suited for you? Your answers to the following five questions should help give you a sense of which Coalition essay prompts might work better for you based on your experiences and interests: Can you easily think of a specific incident in your life that had a major (and positive) effect on you? If so, Prompt 1 would be a good fit for you. Are you committed to volunteering or helping others? If so, Prompt 2 sounds like a good choice. Did you recently change your mind about something, or are you currently questioning something you always used to believe? If so, Prompt 3 would work great for you. Do you have a lot to say about your life as a teenager and contemporary society as a whole? If so, Prompt 4 is your best bet. Do you hate feeling confined to specific prompts or already have an essay or topic idea you want to use for the Coalition App? If so, go with Prompt 5. These questions are just a quick way to help you decide which of the five Coalition essay prompts might work well for you. If you’re still struggling to decide, though, ask yourself:what do you want to write about most? What topic is calling to you? Is there something you just can’t seem to get out of your head? If so, write about this. You can then determine whether this topic you have in mind fits one of the prompts above. If not, you can just put it under Prompt 5 and make it an essay of your choice! Crafting a Great Coalition Application Essay: 4 General Tips To wrap up, here are four general tips to help you write a great Coalition Application essay, no matter which prompt you choose. #1: Use Specific Details In any college essay you write, whether it’s for the Coalition App or another application system, you want to ensure you’re being as specific as possible. Specificity is what will make an admissions committee remember you. It’s what'll make you stand apart from other applicants, and it’s what'll allow your essay to become a compelling story versus a boring, trite description. As you write your essay, try to include details that lend a sense of realism to your story. Don’t shy away from imagery and metaphors.Go ahead and mention that tiny dimple that always forms by your little sister’s mouth when she’s excited about something. Write about the smell of the lake where you used to spend your summers as a kid. Give detail wherever it'll enhance your story. Your goal is for your essay to be memorable. If it’s overly general with very few details the reader can pinpoint, it won’t leave a lasting impression- and that's not a good thing! #2: Be Yourself The point of the Coalition Application essay is to show the admissions committee a side of yourself that you feel isn’t represented (either enough or at all) in the rest of your application. Take this essay as an opportunity to really channel your inner self. Don’t feel as though you need to write in a stiff, formal, scholarly voice. Write how you want to write. It is said that eating tai in its full and perfect shape is to be blessed with good fortune. The eyes of tai are especially rich in vitamin B1. Tai is also considered as the king of fish because of their beautiful shape and color. Tai is only available in Japan, and the fish that most people associate with tai is porgy or red snapper. It is similar to the English expressions To throw a sprat to catch a mackerel or To give a pea for a bean. Unagi (Eel) Unagi is a delicacy in Japan. A traditional eel dish is called kabayaki (grilled eel) and is usually served over a bed of rice. People often sprinkle sansho (a powdered aromatic Japanese pepper) over it. Although eel is rather costly, it has been very popular and people enjoy eating it very much. In the traditional lunar calendar, the 18 days before the beginning of each season is called doyo. The first day of doyo in midsummer and midwinter is called ushi no hi. It is the day of the ox, as in the 12 signs of the Japanese zodiac. In the old days, the zodiac cycle was also used to tell time and directions. It is customary to eat eel on the day of the ox in summer (doyo no ushi no hi, sometime in late July).
